Saturday, July 8: Gander, Newfoundland, Canada → Fogo Island, Canada

Day:
1

We will meet in the afternoon at the airport in Gander, Newfoundland, and transfer by car and ferry to Fogo Island.

Located off the northeast coast of Newfoundland, Fogo Island is a remote yet accessible outport community. "Fogo" is the Portuguese word for fire, and the island was likely named by passing sailors who noticed small fires burning on its shores. Situated in the Labrador Current along "Iceberg Alley," the island is bounded by the rugged shores of the wild North Atlantic Ocean.

The Fogo Island Inn is perched on stilts and hugs the North Atlantic coastline, affording all accommodations with floor-to-ceiling views of sea and sky.

At the end of the day, we will all gather for a welcome cocktail before dinner.
