Day 1 - Monday, April 11: West Palm Beach, Florida (KPBI) → Flores, Guatemala (MGMM) 800 NM

Air Journey along with your Journey Director will greet you this morning at Palm Beach International Airport (KPBI) for a briefing before we fly to Flores.

Upon arrival ,we will transfer to our all-in-one hotel, museum, and spa, Las Lagunas. Located within a private reserve, we will find ourselves immersed in the heart of Maya world.

The rest of the day is at leisure to relax and settle-in to our jungle oasis.

This evening we will meet for a welcome cocktail followed by dinner on property.

Day 2 - Tuesday, April 12: Tikal, Guatemala

After breakfast, we’ll take a unique boat tour to Monkey Island situated in one of the properties five lagoons. Every morning fresh fruit and vegetables are prepared to feed the monkeys. You will get to watch them come down from the top of the trees to eat their food and you might even get a chance to feed them. They are really charming and friendly.

Afterwards, we will depart for our visit to Yaxha for our tour of the Mayan ruins. There will be a stop for lunch along the way.

After lunch, our tour takes us through the jungle to the Yaxha archaeological site in the Cultural Triangle Yaxha-Nakum-Naranjo National Park. Yaxha is the third largest ruin in Guatemala. The center of the city consists of a number of plazas and architectural groups, with outlying groups and the lakeshore linked by causeways. The name of the city is of ancient origin, literally meaning blue-green (Yax) water (ha). A thriving ceremonial center in its heyday, it has over 500 structures, including 40 stelae, 13 Altars, 9 Temple Pyramids, and 2 Mesoamerican ball courts.

Tour the main areas of the complex with our guide before climbing 216 steps to the top of the Mayan pyramid to watch the sunset.

Day 3 - Wednesday, April 13: Tikal, Guatemala

After breakfast, we will head out for a day of discovery. Tikal translates to “City of Echoes”. It is one of the largest archaeological sites and urban centers of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization. Situated in the department of El Petén, the site is part of Guatemala’s Tikal National Park, which in 1979 was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Discover the ancient Mayan site of Tikal which is considered to be one of the most spiritual locations on earth. Once at the national park, see the abundance of wildlife surrounding the temples. Discover how the Mayan civilization built inspiring temples and cities that formed a vast complex of religious, social and political power.

Enjoy a guided tour of the main sights of the complex, which is estimated to have over 3,000 structures including palaces, temples, ceremonial platforms, ball courts, terraces, plazas, causeways, and reservoirs. See several of the main temples including the tallest structure which measures 212 feet.

Lunch in a restaurant inside the Tikal National Park is included.

Day 4 - Thursday, April 14: Flores, Guatemala (MGMM) → Guatemala City, Guatemala (MGGT) 145 NM

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for our flight to Guatemala City, Guatemala. Upon arrival, we will transfer to Antigua for our stay at the San Rafael Boutique Hotel.

This afternoon depart the hotel with our local guide for a glimpse of Guatemala’s colonial past on a walking tour of Antigua. This former capital is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, beloved for its cobblestone streets and majestic church ruins. As you walk, your guide will share information on Antigua’s history and architecture.

Day 5 - Friday, April 15: Antigua

This morning, with our local guide, we’ll visit the Good Friday Easter procession. On Good Friday the streets of Antigua are covered with natural, aromatic carpets of flowers, pines, clover and fruits, which the residents put together and place in front of their homes. There are all kinds and shapes. Some are very long with colonial, Mayan, Roman or other original designs.

This afternoon we’ll visit a local village, a jade artisan, and relax with a cocktail while enjoying a panoramic view overlooking Antigua and the volcanoes.

Day 6 - Saturday, April 16: Antigua

After breakfast, we’ll depart the hotel for San Francisco de Sales for our hike on Volcano Pacaya.

Rising to 8,370 feet, Pacaya is in a near constant state of eruption. We’ll hike to reach the base of the crater's rim. Those who make it to the summit will encounter an otherworldly scene of smoke and gas, with the occasional volcanic belch. Very infrequently, Pacaya will let loose with a spectacular eruption. When the skies are clear, the views are amazing.

We’ll return to the hotel in time for lunch together.

This afternoon is at leisure to relax or explore on your own.

After breakfast, we will transfer back to Guatemala City's airport, from Antigua, for our flight home.
